Clifford Wight

One of the pair of large figures of working men Wight painted on either side of the west windows. He is using an optical transit, a precision instrument used to determine the distance and elevation of another fixed point as well as its angle compared to a known benchmark point. "Surveyor" and its partner "Ironworker" are the "industrial" counterparts to Wight's "agricultural" workers, the Farmer and Cowboy on the opposite side of the Tower. The industrial figures flank the windows above which Wight had painted the three "economic system symbols" that were ordered removed by the Arts Commission before the Tower was opened.
