Ray Bertrand
The process of turning a pig into a ham is shown in this small panel, from the hanging carcass being "singed" of its hair, to the weighing and USDA examination of the meat, to the woman on the packaging line at the right. The metal rails that hold the carcass and transport it are used cleverly by Bertrand to frame the composition and move the eye from start to finish of the process. He turned his challenge of a gun-slit window into a meat smoker processing sausage.
