This is said to be a likeness of A. P. Giannini, founder of the Bank of Italy, later the Bank of America. Although at the time of this mural he was the wealthiest person in San Francisco, he was generally better regarded than other bankers of the era because his institution was built on making small loans to ordinary working people rather than large business enterprises. He was also directly responsible for the rebuilding of North Beach immediately after the 1906 earthquake and fire, and agreed to underwrite the bonds that built the Golden Gate Bridge.
