Frederic E. Law Olmstead
This is the smallest of the major mural works in the Tower (outside of the dedication panel inset into Boynton's work), it occupies a space three feet tall above the main door connecting Gordon Langdon's farm scenes and John Langley Howard's industrial scenes. Howard gave Olmstead the space and he responded with a clever linkage: the "beam" is held up on Howard's side by a jack representing the mechanical, and on the farm side by a tree stump. The power comes from the sun and lightning fairly exploding in the middle. Olmstead was quite modest and his signature is barely visible even when you are looking for it.
